Gema galán weddings
Hi, I’m Gema. I chose photography more than eight years ago, and I have never looked back.
My relationship with wedding photography began much earlier, though. As a child, I loved holding my family's old wedding albums in my hands. I would look through the photographs again and again, asking about the people, the relationships and the stories behind them. I was fascinated by how a photograph could bring a day back to life — how, years later, you could look at an image and suddenly feel as though you were there again.
That feeling has stayed with me, and it is at the heart of the way I photograph weddings today.
Born in Spain and raised in Sydney, I have always felt at home between different cultures. Today, I work with couples from all over the world, photographing celebrations in Spain and wherever their stories take me. I particularly love working with international couples because I understand what it means to bring different places, families and cultures together.
Alongside my wedding work, I am also a fine art photographer. My artistic practice has taken me to exhibitions around the world and received recognition through multiple awards, while my work with couples has brought me into contact with people from many different countries. This experience has shaped my visual language and the way I approach a wedding: with an artistic eye, an appreciation for light and composition, and a deep sensitivity to atmosphere and emotion.
Analogue photography has a particularly important place in my work. I am drawn to the way film renders light, colour and skin, but even more to what photographs can become over time when they are printed and held rather than simply viewed on a screen.
